I really didn't have any particular reason to strip down my mount but eventually curiosity took the the lead .
Generally all parts look ok and I was quite suppriced seeing the interior of the mount in a good condition despite the fact that many posts that I've read on the internet weren't positive this time it was not bad at all.
Earilier I've bought set of all beatings , not sure if it was necessary
I've also decided to update that mount with a belt drive but the seller ( serious on line shop) drives me nuts. It should be here long time ago and instead the mount is still in pieces .....eh
Hopefully not long and I can put it together back.
Mount TLC
Re: Mount TLC
Something new that I found about the mount.
When setting off the backlash on RA I found that it's zero in one position but when mount is turned 180° there is some slag. The diagnose is that the RA worm ring is not well made and the centre hole for bearings is not perfectly cenetered with the worm carrier ehhhhhh
The result in real life is a slow reaction when changing directions but also wind might move the scope within the slag what will ruin the shot. For visual it's perfect.
I wonder if any of you guys might have this part.

Re: Mount TLC
Hi Darius,
I don't have that part, but couldn't you adjust the counterweights so that when tracking they keep gear wheel pressure on the worm in one direction, against the driving direction of the worm i.e. when the counterweight is to the west then scope heavy by setup and when the counterweight is to the east then counterweight heavy, maybe by adding some hanging weights?
Pete

Re: Mount TLC
Hello Pete.
That's what I do for now
Generally I could live with that but if there is a chance to improve.......then why not.
It's nothing urgent at the moment and I think it'll be ok when the scope is guided. Need to do something to check how it works when guided and how to do the guiding
Due to relatively low the scope resolution, the idea of addopting the SW 50mm finder scope looks quite interesting. Some kind of a home made camera adaptor to be made and it might work LoL
Worth a try ......

Yes indeedy why not
Any joy with the belt drive guy yet ?
Bought an autoguider as an easy entry to guiding, one of these...

Quite fancied just a minimalist guiding solution then using the DSLR, the android tablet and DSLR controller for the pictures.

Well I’ve handcrafted that gun

Just taped a 1/25 eyepiece holder to the SW 50/180 finder scope/ deficit of parts

And stick into it the QHY5LC cam. Focus was a big challenge.

The Installation and configuration of PHD went some kind of intensive learning programme but ..........
TBH that frame, 2/2 (first was 10 min ...also great) surprised me a lot
It also opened far better spectrum of possibilities
Just that tape LoL
