Scouts at the Fairmont

Postby Cosmic » 07 Apr 2012, 11:40

I have been asked if we can provide another Stargazing Live event this time for 2 troops of Boy Scouts who wiill be taking their Astronomy badge exam. There are 30 boys in each group and they would like the event before the end of April.
I have told them we will need FOOD this time but there is no money for the club this is strictly charity.

I hope we will be able to rally round and do this so please indicate your willingness to help out and if you are bringing scope.
regards

Have hols coming up - but would be happy to attend (this time with a bolt to mount my 8inch scope... doh!).

Given we cannot trust the weather - any chance of getting a good video of the full moon with your new camera, so if its cloudy we show that as its a great indoor/rain fallback talking point - the camera views were stunning, and even pictures of the plasma display show astonishing levels of detail.....

We lucked out with the weather last - event - but may not be so lucky for the scouts.

next full moon is Sunday 6th May 2012 - so our next event at fairmont will be unlikely to have live coverage of the moon, so if we can generate a moon video with new camera in next clear night that would be ace ?

Likewise willing to muck in Geoff - but would obviously need to know a concrete date.

As for the moon - if these lads are doing an Astronomy badge, they should be jumping
at the chance to use real gear look at objects OTHER than just the moon!

This has been postponed now due to unsettled weather and it doesn't look too good for the foreseeable future
